I recently enjoyed seven hours of… soaking up the serotonin.
I speak about the long English summer we just enjoyed over a recent weekend.
With my wife and daughter, we sat outside the Slug & Lettuce public house, known from now on as a site of pilgrimage for PD sufferers.
The great thing about this unassuming hostelry was the welcoming lack of service, allowing you to wait in the 28 degree blazing sun while you longed for your “chips & dips” for at least an hour.
So that was time enough for me, through my Factor 50 shield, to absorb enough UV rays to power a space ship launch.
The resulting burst of serotonin was more than enough to send your writer into PD bliss for several hours.
It was like taking drugs, not terrific prescription ones, and for the price of a Heineken 00.
I honestly didn’t realise how much better I felt until I started to “come down”.
What does this all mean? I need to find more sun.
Second, I intend to open PD sun camps all over the UK — for one weekend only, location and date TBC.
Serotonin soakers in sun loungers would lap up all available rays until sunset. There will be no limit.
I then did a shallow dive into science. It didn’t take long. It was triggered the following day by the prospect of less sun.
The best way to get serotonin into your system? A wholemeal sandwich filled with cheddar cheese (closely followed by cheese omelette). Exotic eh? No mention of Branston Pickle (this is not a sponsored post — yet).
Back to sun camp to make a cheese toastie.
Happy sunbathing…
Ha ha. Great idea! I’ll do the best wines to drink in the sun next!!
Sign me up! The sun and warmth definitely improve thing s for me. I’m thinking a vineyard in Italy...
